In 2007, we got a loan from a bank to purchase a truck. The truck was collateral and paid our loan through. A few weeks and no title ever came our way. The bank says they never got a title from the auto dealer; they can't produce a title. Whose responsibility is it to give me a title? The bank says it is not theirs.
Take it up with the bank. Your loan, secured by a vehicle they had a lien on, has been paid. Ask them why they never obtained the title work to owhich they were entrusted.
You may also contact the state DMV (or ask the bank to) to ensure a title was filed, and who the lienholder is, if there is one. If you were registering the car with the state, they obviously have some record of it. The bank should be able then to request a lost title replacement and then release their lien to you. Then process the title to receive a new one without the bank's lien.
